"Todays vote on Croatias accession is an important moment, which I believe will strengthen the European Union. It would demonstrate credibility of the EU enlargement policy and commitments given to the region."  Eduard Kukan commented on the voting.

At the same time Kukan stressed the importance of the successful completion of this country's integration efforts also from the viewpoint  of strengthening stability, security and freedom in the region of Western Balkans. "I am sure that the accession of Croatia will also contribute to strengthening stability, security and freedom in the region. Croatia should continue to play an active role in the Western Balkans and I hope it will be a strong promoter of the European values in the region."

Eduard Kukan also stressed, that "The success of Croatia is the success of all its citizens as well as citizens of European Union. Therefore, I would like to congratulate all people from

the EU and Croatia who worked hard on bringing Croatia to this point."

At this moment, which is so important for Croatia, I would like to mention and encourage other countries of the region to view the success of Zagreb as a catalyst in their own integration efforts and aspirations.
