Eduard Kukan, appeals on all MPs to deliver a political compromise opening a gate for Montenegro's membership negotiations.
Following intensive negotiations since the failure to amend the election law after the 7th deadline has expired a month ago, the head of the European Parliament delegation for South East Europe Eduard Kukan encouraged political parties to strike a deal and deliver long awaited changes in electoral law. Mr Kukan said:
"After years of promises from the Montenegrin politicians, it is clear to the EU institutions that electoral reform is conditio sine qua non for opening the EU membership negotiations. I appeal to all leaders to pay less attention to symbolic issues and find political consensus on a legislative result which would improve quality of the Montenegrin democratic processes and allow for moving to the next level of European integration."
