On the occasion of the start of the new session   in the Albanian parliament, the head of the European Parliament delegation for South East Europe Eduard Kukan called on all Albanian parliamentarians to actively take part in a constructive dialogue over the country's future.

"Albanian parliamentarians need to demonstrate their readiness to join efforts with a view to adopt legislation required for future European integration. I welcome the decision of the socialist opposition to resume their parliamentary activity in the Parliament. This is a positive step towards normalization of the political dialogue in the country. I hope that the Parliament will be the main forum for all parties to relaunch and stimulate the necessary political dialogue.

All political forces should intensify their efforts to implement the twelve priorities set up by the Commission in the last Enlargement Strategy.  As a priority, all parties should work efficiently on electoral reform in order to guarantee a commonly agreed and effective electoral framework in the future.

The country's progress on its EU path is in the hands of the Albanian political leaders who should find a clear consensus on the European agenda" said Eduard Kukan.
